Merritt Donald Lyon, 84, of West Allis, Wisconsin, passed away peacefully with family by his side on Monday, April 30, 2018. Born in Waupaca, Wisconsin to Ward and Violet “Lila” Lyon.
Merritt was passionate about his wife and family, the consummate “joker,” he always loved sharing a laugh, playing silly games, and being outdoors. He was extremely hardworking as the owner of Capitol Trailer in Milwaukee, WI for 45 years. In his spare time, he first and foremost enjoyed being with his family, but also unselfishly helped others in need. He enjoyed golfing and working in his yard, and could fix or build anything with whatever supplies he found in his shed or garage. He enjoyed taking long car rides and eating out at some of Milwaukee’s finest hidden gems.
Merritt was deeply loved and is survived by his wife of 49 years Victoria Marie Lyon, children Merritt (Pam) Lyon, Thiensville, WI; Jori Lyon, Spring, TX; Melanie (John) Gee, Franklin, WI; Todd Lyon, St. Louis, MO; Brigitte (Mike) Schimming, Wauwatosa, WI; Natalie (Justin) Battershield, Indianapolis, IN, Rachel (Edward) Iacono, Oak Creek, WI; and Daniel (Raime) Lyon, San Antonio, TX. He is further survived by his brother Teddy Lyon of Brodhead, WI, his sister Martha Lyon of West Allis, WI, 14 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, extended family, and many friends. Merritt was preceded in death by son Nicholas A. Lyon, parents, and six brothers.
The family will receive friends and family on Friday, May 18, 2018 from 4:00 to 6:00 pm with a 6 pm Memorial Service at Fox River Christian Church - Muskego Campus S67 W19491 Tans Dr. Muskego, WI 53150. Merritt was actively involved in the Fox River and Elmbrook Church teen ministry programs, and made a difference in the lives of many youth.
