Give Yourself Time to Consider Cremation

Before you decide that direct cremation is right for you, it is generally a good idea to spend some time thinking about your options. Those options include ether burial or cremation, and they both have their merits. Much depends on your preferences, beliefs, attitudes, personality, and so on. Of course, sometimes this matter simply depends on something like a gut feeling—what you are more comfortable with or what really sits right with you. Whether you decide to go on instinct or a more elaborate decision making process, you should at least know what’s involved and what’s at stake.   

Yes, cremation is quite simple in many respects. At its most fundamental level, it involves reducing the body of the deceased to an ash-like substance after subjecting it to very high temperatures. From there, the cremated remains are then given to the next-of-kin, at which point they may determine how to proceed. But while cremation is fairly straightforward in many respects, there may still be a few things to consider. Is it consistent with your preferences when it comes to the remains (e.g. having them buried, scattered, displayed in an urn, etc.)? Are you comfortable with the idea of cremation itself? Are you interested in cremation because of the money that you can save? Does cremation fit your belief system, or do you have any related concerns therewith? Does your family have any traditions that might impact your interest in cremation?
